The Mariah Carey blitz is on.

When Mariah Carey's "E=MC2" leaked online about a week ago, one thing was certain. There would be no sudden rush-release of the album, a la Eminem's "Encore," or, to use a more recent example, Gnarls Barkley's "The Odd Couple." New albums from the likes of Carey, and later this month Madonna, are as close as the music business is going to get these days to an "Indiana Jones"-type blockbuster. As the rest of the industry is getting used to plotting shorter, more frugal marketing campaigns, to an artist on the level of a Carey, first week is still paramount. "E=MC2" will live or die by its singles, and a multi-month marketing campaign is coming to a head at just the right moment. Two weeks ago, Carey hit No. 1 with her slight slow-jam "Touch My Body," and passed Elvis as the solo artist with the most chart-topping singles with 18. On Monday, Carey guests on television's greatest gift to retail sales, "Oprah," and then it's Carey's time to shine on "American Idol." read more latimesblogs.latimes.com

Street KingsE! Reviews .

Review in a Hurry: Blam, blam, whoa—no thank you, man. Keanu Reeves makes a surprisingly good thug-with-a-badge in this bad-cop, badder-cop thriller from director David Ayer (Harsh Times) and crime-novel legend James Ellroy. But the lively action scenes can't make up for some DOA dialogue and connect-the-dots plotting. The Bigger Picture: It seems like there's never a cop around when you need one. When we meet Det. Tom Ludlow (Reeves), he's busy setting up and then gunning down a Korean kidnapping ring, all at the behest of his slick superior (Forest Whitaker), a rising star in the department thanks to the antics of Ludlow's special unit.  read more -eonline.com

Forced to marry a 50-year-old with six wives when just 18 ... One woman's harrowing tale of escaping the Texas polygamist sect.

Watching the TV this week I wept as pictures were broadcast from an isolated part of Texas. I saw 416 children - from infants to teenagers - and 133 women being taken into protective police custody. They were driven away from a place they called "home" - a 1,700-acre desert compound run by the polygamist sect once controlled by their "prophet", Warren Jeffs The reason I was crying was simple - those images of women wearing ankle-length dresses and holding the hands of bright-eyed children brought back terrible memories. For I was once one of them. Many of those teenage girls were pregnant and some already had babies. Few of the 416 youngsters brought out of the sect in the Texas desert knew their full names, birthday or even their own mothers. Some had been beaten so badly they had suffered broken bones. Girls, some as young as 12 and 13, had been expected to have sex with much older men.  read more -dailymail.co.uk

Colorado Man Dies After Falling off Outcrop, Landing On Rocks.

GIRDWOOD, Alaska — A Colorado man was killed in a skiing accident at the U.S. World Free Skiing Championships at the Alyeska Resort. Bryan Barlow said witnesses reported Nicoletta fell off the outcrop. He says Nicoletta was "head over heels, essentially tomahawking all the way down the hill." Barlow says resuscitation efforts went on for about 45 minutes before he was declared dead. read more -foxnews.com

The 13-year-old boy who battered man to death and threw his body on a bonfire.

A boy of 13 was locked up indefinitely Friday for battering a vulnerable man to death and throwing his body on a Guy Fawkes night bonfire. Jamie Smith was high on cider and vodka when he murdered 34-year-old Stephen Croft in the early hours of November 6 last year. Judge Henry Globe, QC, the Recorder of Liverpool, told Smith he posed a "very high risk of harm to the public" and ordered he serve a minimum 13 years before being eligible for parole. Owing to the gravity of the crime, he lifted an order banning the identification of Smith because of his age. read more -dailymail.co.uk

Mother needing transplant is refused dead daughter's kidney, despite girl's deathbed plea.

With her mother desperately in need of a transplant, Laura Ashworth told family and friends she wanted to donate one of her kidneys. So when the 21-year-old died after an asthma attack, it seemed that the tragedy would at least give Rachel Leake a chance of a healthy new life. But because Laura had not begun the formal process of becoming a "living donor," the authorities refused to let her mother receive her organs. Instead they went to strangers at the top of the waiting list. "All I wanted to do was carry out her wishes," said 39-year-old Mrs Leake. "She would have been so upset that she was not able to help her mum. Even the transplant coordinator was crying her eyes out. She really tried to get her bosses to change their minds but they would not budge." read more -dailymail.co.uk

Boy, 8, may have seen Lauren Huxley's attacker.

AN eight-year-old boy could hold the key to finding the man who savagely bashed teenager Lauren Huxley before setting her home alight and leaving her for dead. The boy, who cannot be identified, said he was playing with friends at his after-school care on the afternoon Ms Huxley was attacked in 2005, when he first noticed a man pacing near the front of her family's Northmead home. In a video-recorded interview with police played at the trial of accused attacker Robert Black Farmer in the Supreme Court yesterday, the boy described the man he saw as "about six foot" tall, with short brown hair, wearing black tracksuit pants and a black T-shirt. "The track suit pants had cords hanging down," he said, referring to the garment's drawstrings.

A painting of a naked JobCentre manager by Lucian Freud is expected to become the most expensive picture by a living artist ever sold when it goes under the hammer in New York next month. The 85-year-old artist's huge canvas is predicted to make up to $35million (£18million) for its owner, a European collector, at a Christie's sale on 13 May. Today, the woman in the picture, 51-year-old Sue Tilley, who works in a West End JobCentre, told how it was almost never painted. The first time the artist met her, in a Soho nightclub 20 years ago, he criticised her lipstick. “He said it had too many blue tones.  read more dailymail.co.uk

Lawsuit alleges Ledger used cocaine.

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- A lawsuit against a photo agency and two paparazzi who allegedly filmed Heath Ledger in a hotel room where drugs were being taken claims that the late actor was also using cocaine that night. The lawsuit, filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court by a woman who was not named, alleges that two Splash News paparazzi lured Ledger to her room at the Chateau Marmont Hotel on January 29, 2006. It says they gave him cocaine and secretly filmed the actor, who also had some of his own cocaine. The woman is listed as Jane Doe in the court documents for "fear of consequences and repercussions," but it identifies her as a People magazine freelance reporter covering a Screen Actors Guild Awards afterparty at the West Hollywood hotel. read more -cnn.com

UCLA Knew Employees Looked At Celebs’ Medical Files In 1995.

Los Angeles (dbTechno) - According to a new report from the Los Angeles Times, the UCLA Medical Center has known since 1995 that their employees were taking a look, without authorization, at medical files of celebrities including Tom Cruise, Britney Spears, Farrah Fawcett, Maria Shriver, and others. A former employee at the UCLA Medical Center, James Duckstad, has come out and told the Los Angeles Times that he was one of the workers fired back in 1995. The reason he was fired was the same reason Lawanda J. Jackson was fired just this week, for taking a look at the medical files of celebrities. Duckstad stated he looked at the medical files of Tom Cruise and Dom DeLuise without authorization. This means that the UCLA Medical Center has known of these problems with medical file security for over a decade. read more dbtechno.com
